Good Alternative.....But..     On: 2009-11-25

I bought a 12 set of these candles some time ago to light up a little Christmas village I have. I didnt really want them for inside the houses, but for just placing in and around the village. Which I am fortunate that was the case. For I have read a lot of reviews across the board on these little candles being a good alternative to electric lights on a string for inside your Christmas, and other villages. The fact is that I feel that most village houses will not have a hole at the bottom of them big enough to accommodate these. I took one along, (that are just about as big around as a common tea light, but a little taller) to a local Christmas shop and found that the unit was too big for better than half the village houses I found there. Even if you were fortunate to have a village that these fit, I feel that most will find themselves being disappointed by the light output. They are not only no where near as bright as a common incandescent bulb used in village houses, but they also have a yellow colored flame, despite the picture of them here giving the indication that they are white. Lastly, even if you find that they fit your village houses, and you happen to prefer the yellow flame, they still flicker. Something that may look quaint and realistic when the flame bulb is visible, but not really preferable in a village house in my opinion. If you are considering any of the battery operated lights of this kind on Amazon, I would consider all that I have stated above as liabilities before purchasing.

On the positive side, these little tea lights look very nice in just about any other situation or setting where tea lights are normally used. And they carry the benefit of never offering the chance of burning your house down in the case of you falling asleep in the cozy setting if something should go wrong. Each candle takes 3 of the small common RF44 batteries that are easy to find, and can be bought in bulk here on Amazon cheaply. Since they are LED, they take a lot less juice, and each candle should last you around 100 hours burning time. A decent enough amount of time enabling you to easily switch them on for 4 or 5 hours a night, and still have them last most or all of the Christmas season. Despite the liabilities of using them as village building lights, I recommend these little tea lights for anyone that has a need for such illumination, but doesnt care for taking a chance with real tea lights....
